Short Walks of the Cradle Coast Tasmania

Cradle Coast Tasmania is full of incredible short walks ranging from coastal, alpine, forest or something in between. Get outdoors, disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature.

From endemic fagus in Autumn, to fungi of all colours, shapes and sizes in Winter, waterfalls big and small in Spring, endemic plants and local wildlife year round, all short walks are different and every time you do them, you’ll see something new.

Our short walks are displayed in an easy-to-use Google Map, outlining short walks, waterfalls and long walks in the Cradle Coast region in Tasmania.

Important Information about Walking in Tasmania

The Tasmanian Wilderness can be a harsh and unforgiving place – make sure you plan and are prepared for any walks. Tasmania’s maritime climate means the weather can change very quickly – in alpine areas, hot and sunny conditions can become squalls, heavy rain and even snowfalls, within a very short time. In warmer weather, watch out for snakes! (They love the summer time as much as we do!)

Know your capabilities and be prepared. Check the weather forecast (www.bom.gov.au) before you start walks and wear appropriate clothing.

Ensure you have packed the following basics (at minimum) in your comfortable backpack for our short walks:

  • Bottle of water (2L)
  • Waterproof jacket
  • Sunscreen
  • Hat
  • Food/snacks (take out what you bring in)
  • First aid kit

You may also want to bring:

  • Beanie and gloves
  • Down jacket
  • Extra socks
  • Camera

Longer walks will require more preparation. You may want to pack: Thermals, Down jacket, satellite phone, gaiters, togs/swimmers, binoculars and other such things.

Always let somebody know where you’re going and try not to walk alone. Walks are better with company!
