Seasons and Weather Conditions
The Cradle Coast enjoys very distinct seasons, each with their own unique experiences throughout the year. Because of the varying seasons, it's important to plan carefully so that you are fully prepared for all weather. From fierce and powerful UV Rays in the summer sun to feet of snow falling in the mountains in winter, knowing what to expect before you go can be key for planning the type of experience you want to have while visiting our spectacular and diverse Cradle Coast region.
Winter can be a beautiful time to visit the Cradle Coast and witness the snow on Cradle mountain and other surrounding areas. If you're traveling here in winter, it's important to be prepared. In the cooler months some roads are subject to frost, ice and snow. Always exercise caution if you observe road signs warning of ‘Black Ice’ and ensure your vehicle is equipped to handle snow if it's encountered. Even after an overnight frost in winter, you can experience a beautiful sunny day, too. If you're coming in winter - bring warm layers and a waterproof jacket, and good footwear.
Summer in the Cradle Coast delivers gorgeous weather with average daily temperatures between 23-28 degrees celsius. It's a fabulous time to enjoy plenty of outdoor activities, wildlife, bush walks and beaches. During the day, you'll definitely want to lather up with SPF 30+ sunscreen and a hat, as the Tasmanian sun can be fierce. At night when the sun goes down, the air can turn chilly so be sure to bring a warm sweater for those cool summer nights. You won't regret visiting the Cradle Coast in the summer, it's a perfect climate for activities and adventures.
Spring and Autumn
Spring and Autumn are both terrific seasons to see the native flora and fauna. In spring, it's flowering and in Autumn it's changing colours, with incredible fungi popping up across the region. During these transitional seasons, expect some cold weather and rain, so be sure to pack a raincoat and umbrella. Autumn is slightly cooler than spring, but you can still expect plenty of sunshine, so keep the sunscreen and hat handy. Both seasons are great times to visit, offering magical scenes across the region.
