Adrenaline adventures on the Cradle Coast

With a rugged, natural landscape and open ocean to the north and west, the Cradle Coast has the perfect position in Tasmania for adrenaline adventures. While there are many opportunities for relaxation and soft adventure, for those seeking a little wilder wilderness experience, the Cradle Coast has you covered. Here are some of our favourite heart-pumping experiences.

Cradle Mountain Canyons

At Cradle Mountain Canyons, launch yourself off waterfalls, abseil down cliffs and shoot through nature's waterslides. Canyoning through the magnificent World Heritage wilderness at Cradle Mountain is an exhilarating way to experience the landscape.

No experience is necessary and all equipment will be provided, you just need to bring bathers, a towel and a drink bottle.

Experienced and qualified guides will lead you through the stunning canyons, which are located a stone's throw from Cradle Mountain. Choose between an action packed day of waterfall jumps and slides in the Dove Canyon or a much easier introduction to the world of canyoning in the Lost World Canyon (open to children aged eight and up).

King River Rafting in Queenstown

King for the Day is an exhilarating full day rafting experience from King River Rafting through the lush wilderness of the West Coast's temperate rainforest. A 20-kilometre journey down the King River is Tasmania's only regular one-day wilderness rafting trip and a highlight of any visit to Tasmania's West Coast.

From Queenstown, the journey begins at  Newall Creek on the King River. Experienced guides take you on a six-hour journey past thousands of Huon Pine trees and the Garfield River platypus pool, then onto traverse the Sailor Jack rapid. As you make your way down the river, birds of the forest are about, and closer to the sea the White-bellied Sea Eagle may be soaring overhead. Evidence of past mining and man’s industrialisation are everywhere on this tour, slowly rusting back into the bush as nature reclaims its own. Skilled guides will tell tales of both the natural and human history of the area and ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable day.
