With many options to choose from as you make your way across the Cradle Coast, there's a few notable places we'd like to highlight, a little further off the beaten path.
Risby Cove: Fine fare in the far West
There's nothing quite like settling into a cosy getaway in the region's most western town of Strahan. When you first arrive to the quaint town and settle into your accommodation, you'll notice the slower pace of life. Time operates in a different fashion in Strahan and watching the boats quietly cruising across Macquarie Harbour brings a particular wave of delight. Some of those boats might just be carrying the fresh seafood you'll later be enjoying for dinner.
Around the bay and a short walk from the heart of Strahan, Risby Cove restaurant waits with all its charm to host you for dinner. Their menu is a selection of freshly caught seafood, as well as locally sourced meat and produce. As you indulge, the flavours linger for the perfect length of time, pairing beautifully with their list of local wines and craft beers.
The service at Risby Cove is also fantastic and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They're also passionate about Strahan and the West Coast and will give you tips for how to enjoy the rest of your time on the West Coast. But don't rush out of there... you'll definitely want to stay to watch the sunset.😍
Gordon River Cruises: Cruise + dine
All aboard the Spirit of the Wild! This may just become the highlight of your entire Cradle Coast experience. The Spirit of the Wild is a brand new vessel from Gordon River Cruises. This journey takes you on a full day cruise along the Gordon River and into the UNESCO Wilderness World Heritage Area. A combination of food, beverage, history and wilderness, this cruise will immerse your senses in the sights, sounds, tastes and smells you experience along the journey.
If you choose to indulge in the "Premium Upper Deck" tickets (which we highly suggest), when you first arrive on board, a light breakfast is made available, with fresh fruit and baked goods as well as coffee and tea. Then, you're off to explore the opening of Macquarie Harbour as you learn about the first convicts to arrive on the West and the life they experienced there. Later in the day, there is a delicious locally sourced buffet lunch featuring: salmon, trout and an array of salads and dishes. Pair lunch and desserts with a local Tasmanian beverage (or two!) and sit back and relax as you enjoy the rest of your tour on the Spirit of the Wild, exploring the beautiful scenery.
Bayviews: A Burnie treasure
At the gateway to the far north-west is the small city of Burnie, which is the second largest urban centre in the Cradle Coast. Burnie has many cafes, parks and lovely coastal views. One of which can be enjoyed from an upper-level dining establishment right on the water in the heart of the downtown centre.
Bayviews restaurant is a local favourite for many Cradle Coast professionals and you'll often find people enjoying after-work drinks and dinner with colleagues. The food offerings range in variety, but the commonality is that they are all prepared to perfection. Whether you've chosen a medium-rare eye fillet or a freshly caught seafood dish, each will be paired with flavours that will make your mouth water. Bayviews also offers a wonderful wine list.. and the perfect location to enjoy a glass or two!
Delicious Devonport: A few local favourites

Another spot with views to accompany the sensational tastes is Mrs.Jones, located on the second story next to the Devonport Surf Life Saving Club. A restaurant known and celebrated state-wide, Mrs.Jones is the go-to for many fine dining locals in the area. Consistency and quality are always delivered at a top-level here and as you enjoy your meal, you can watch Spirit of Tasmania fade off into the vast distance of the Bass Strait.
New on the scene in Devonport is CharlotteJack, an open-kitchen style restaurant with celebrity chef, Ben Milbourne. Ben and his team have established a visually stunning location right in the heart of Devonport at Providore Place, accompanied by tasty tapas style dining. Gaining traction on a larger scale, Ben Milbourne's reputation from being on Master Chef has allowed for CharlotteJack to attract visitors from interstate and beyond. In addition to the incredible tastes, it's really fun to watch your food being made right in front of you!
