Indulge your tastebuds in Devonport, Tasmania

Devonport Food and Wine Festival is a month-long celebration of North-West Tasmania’s rich food and beverage philosophy with over 45 events being held in more than 20 venues throughout October. The festival encompasses a variety of delights from foodie walking tours and cooking classes, through to wine tastings and everything in between.

Festival co-ordinator JoHanna Robertson said the event provided an opportunity for locals and visitors to discover something new and to learn more about growing, cooking and enjoying food.

“There are a variety of events on offer from high-end dining experiences, opportunities to grow and cook your own food, family-friendly outdoor events and behind the scenes tours, ” she said.

“We have quite a few new venues involved this year.  It will be a real showcase of different food experiences available in our region.”

Make your way to Roundhouse Park from noon on October 21 for a free celebration of the community and the beautiful produce of the North-West Coast at the Spring Festival. Enjoy a range of food and beverage vendors and food trucks as well as traditional fair games, face painting, farm animals and more.

During the Devonport Food and Wine Festival, Cultivate will be offering walking tours of the city, taking you to some of Devonport’s most loved food locations. The three-hour tour will include visits to the likes of Gioconda Coffee, Hill Street Grocer, Southern Wild Distillery, Charlottejack just to name a few. At each location you will receive a tasting and a goodie to take home. Cost is $85 and tours will run each Saturday through October from 1.30-5.30pm. Petuna Seafoods, at 134 Tarleton Street, East Devonport, will be holding tours of the facilities which will include gourmet tastings. Tours will run on Wednesday October 3, Tuesday 9th, Thursday 18th and Wednesday 24th from 9am-10am. $30 includes tastings, a tour of factory and complimentary coffee. Enjoy High Tea at House of Anvers, which will include local produce from the Cradle to Coast Tasting Trail. High tea will be running from Monday October 22 to Friday October 26 between 10am to 4pm at 9025 Bass Highway, Latrobe. Cost is $23 per person including a hot drink. Empress Craft Beer Bar, at 48 Oldaker Street, Devonport, will be celebrating for the whole month of October with eight tap Tassie beers, heaps of Tassie merchandise, Tassie six-packs and Tasmanian inspired cocktails. On Saturday, October 20 the Rotary Club of Devonport South East in conjunction with Providore Place will be hosting Tas-Brewfest at 13-17 Oldaker Street from 2pm-9pm. Tas-Brewfest will include brewers of Tasmanian craft beer as well as food and entertainment.

Or if you feel like being gINDULGENT make your way to Southern Wild Distillery on Saturday or Sunday, October 13-14, from 11am-2pm for an inclusive event of Gin Tasting, Masterclass, Distillery Tour and Food/Gin Pairing. Bookings are essential [email protected] or phone 6423 5981, cost is $99 per person.

If wine is your preferred drop head to Ghost Rock Wines, 1055 Port Sorell Road, Northdown, for Wine 101, Learn the Basics on Saturday, October 20, 7.30- 9.30pm. There will be no wine snobbery, just interesting dialogue about how to get more out of the wine you drink.  Enjoy a relaxed evening of wine, cheese and charcuterie, as winemaker Justin Arnold shares his knowledge on winegrowing, wine-tasting and wine socialising.  Learn the basics on what to look for when tasting wine, how to find the right wine for you, and where to go for good advice. Cost is $55 and bookings are essential, call 6428 4005.

To round off the month of delicious festivities, a Taste the Coast Dinner will be held on Wednesday, October 31, from 6pm at Drysdale, 20 Valley Road, Devonport. Drysdale will be presenting a five-course dinner featuring North-West Tasmanian premium seasonal produce. Cost is $60 per person for dinner including tea, coffee and fortified wine.
